Late 30s female of color working at a unicorn startup. When looking at her epigenetic map, we quickly found a few areas possibly giving consternation. Since she was the second child in her family, focusing on the mother’s side initially, revealed issues with the client’s grand-father and his inability to show up for the client’s mother. We surfaced unmet needs of connection, trust and warmth. There was a deep longing from the client’s mother for her paternal support. This distrust and lack of foundational belonging from the client’s mother was one of the core impediments for the client’s sense of belonging at work, connection to her team and lack of alignment to the larger business goals.
Repair: Once we focused on these core unmet needs and addressed them more fully using the appropriate sentence structures to secrete particular neurochemicals, the client’s nervous system began to relax and move further into parasympathetic state. Repeated, successful movements into the parasympathetic state teaches the nervous system to recover more naturally and automatically. From this place, a greater sense of belonging can be accessed and then matching external goals with internal states can be more easily aligned.
Sometimes, what we want in life is epigenetically coded to secrete cortisol, so moving toward that which we want not only feels bad, it can cause stress, anxiety or even depression. However, simply rewiring this thought-pattern with a new neurochemical quickly changes our internal landscape which is reflected in our external environment. And then getting what we want is far more achievable.
